Sr. Database Administrator - Oracle
Performs Database Administration functions in all environments including performance tuning and capacity planning. Performs as a team lead or project manager for major projects within the DBA team. Collaborates with development teams supporting the application development lifecycle and/or the production support teams while ensuring system stability.
Responsibilities:
* Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) Software installation and upgrades.
* Performs application security configuration and administration.
* Performs logical database design and physical database implementation.
* Instrumental in database creation, monitoring and performance tuning.
* Responsible for application/SQL troubleshooting and tuning.
* Develops and implements Backup and Recovery Strategies.
* Reviews SQL code and database object designs against standards and best practices.
* Performs database administration from the command line as well as through graphical tools.
* Plays active technical role in the planning phase of new projects.
* Works closely with customers to determine their strategic business need requirements and measures system performance against expectations.
* Supports production systems, as required, by optimizing performance, helping resolve problems, and providing timely follow-up on problem reports.
* May serve as a technical lead on projects.
* Coordinates implementation activities with other parts of the enterprise.
* Participates in presentations to senior leadership.
* Communicates plans, status and issues to higher management levels.
* Works directly with all areas in IT and has close working relationship with IT peer group.
* Assists IT peers and junior engineers in technical issue resolution.
* Provides technical direction and training to other IT employees.
* Mentors employees within the DBA group and other groups within IT, offering guidance and sharing business and technical knowledge.
* Participates in on-call duty, 24/7 pager rotation.
* Sets a good example by modeling HSN values and desired behaviors.

* Bachelor's Degree or equivalent amount of technical experience
* 5+ years experience with: Oracle Database Administration, PL/SQL, Backup and Recovery and Performance Tuning
* Project management/team lead experience
* Database Design / Data Modeling
* Configuration Management
* Database security administration
* System / Database Monitoring
* Advanced SQL and instance tuning for medium to large databases (over 1000gb)
* Data Guard implementation and support
* UNIX (preferably Solaris or Red Hat Linux)
* Strong shell scripting skills
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
* Ability to establish a high level of customer trust and confidence
* Able to work independently, and in groups to achieve project objectives/deliverables
* Oracle RAC experience preferred
* Oracle database version 11g experience preferred
* Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) experience preferred
* BMC Software experience preferred
* EMC Timefinder experience preferred
* Network Appliance experience preferred
