Network Engineer
CIBER – ITO (Information Technology Operations) is a dynamic growing Managed Services based business unit within CIBER, a billion dollar IT services firm. CIBER – ITO is looking for a Level 2 Network Engineer candidate to work at our Data Center in Edison, NJ or Tampa, FL.
DESCRIPTION:
The Network Engineer’s role is to ensure the stability of run operations providing proactive maintenance for the connectivity of computer and network systems and to ensure stable operation within the managed service offerings supporting CIBER customers. This includes configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all new and existing network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training where required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategy & Planning
Collaborate with executive management and department leaders to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs.
Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records.
Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery.
Operational Management
Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, fax machines, and other network appliances.
Manage servers, including database, e-mail, print, and backup servers and their associated operating systems and software.
Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
Participate in managing all network security solutions.
Perform server and security audits, and system backups and recovery.
Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Formal Education & Certification
Four-year university degree or college diploma in the field of computer science and/or 6 years or more equivalent work experience.
Certifications in Cisco (CCNA, CCNP, CCIE) or would consider Nortel (NCTS, NCSE, NCDE, NCA)
Knowledge & Experience
5 - 10 years’ experience managing and configuring enterprise-wide CISCO and NORTEL LANs, WANs, WLANs, VPNs, etc.
Exceptional technical knowledge of networked midrange and enterprise servers and operating systems including Microsoft Windows 2008, Solaris, HP-UX, RedHat/Suse/Debian Linux, etc… .
Hands-on experience troubleshooting hardware such as servers, routers, bridges, switches, hubs, modems, network interface cards, and so on.
Excellent knowledge of current protocols and standards:
Experience with programming languages such as Perl, awk, ksh.
Extensive application support experience with network management and monitoring tools.
Knowledge and understanding of system flow charts, data processing concepts, and telecommunications principles.
Experience installing network cabling and patching telephony systems.
Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.

Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
Ability to perform general mathematical calculations for the purpose of creating needs assessments, budgets, and so on.
